I was making the L297 drive by using two L298 IC for stepper drive. It is work well in proteus but in actual when i start making it then the L298 burn with over heat.

I using the power supply of 24 V Dc 4.5Amp. Although Sense resistance sets up on the 0.5ohm and 0.5 v signal to the Vref Pin no 15 at L297. Im using the stepper motor of 1.2 Amp of sanyo. I checked all the parameters several time but still didnit find anything. I also uses the 8 Free wheeling diodes at the end of 6 Amp each.

Im confusedd dont know what to do

Thanks for your reply..

I just checked the circuit layout too but didn't find anything. Is the circuit configuration correct..?? and any amendment is required in the circuit for the high performance..?

I am interfacing this circuit with Pic16f.

Only three pins are using for stepper drive operation enable , direction and clock..

No problem at first sight. Vref must be limited to 2V to keep the specified L298 current rating, 0.5 V should be fine.

Can it be a circuit layout problem?

It's reasonable to start checking the design for correct waveforms (except for current limiting action) without motor load or use reduced motor supply or increased shunt resistors. This should verify correct wiring.

Okay when i used the low power supply for motor driving.
i.e. pin number 4 of L298 feeded with 12V .. motor work well but as i connected 24v supply it again starts heating up. :(
