I'm busy with a design for an optical proximity sensor, but I have some difficulty with the lens design (of which I have little experience). Anybody know of software that I can use to design and simulate the lens system?

hi,

u can try Zemax, Oslo, or ASAP for the lens design..

Hi,

try that link

it sems to be freeware for your problem.

Or use google to search for lens or optical design software. I dit it and found about 3000 links.

Good luck

You may not need a lens if you use the correct design and modulation.

Using and array of sensors could also work.

Need more details on what range and resolution you are looking for.

Also look at ultrasonics.

Thanks for the replies. The problem I have is that I need to focus the light-beam quite accurately on the object under test, so I probably would need a simple lens.

This is optic design software for lens and mirorrs.

This may or may not be helpfull, but reverse engineering an existing design can be educational.

Unfortunately, part of this zip file is corrupt (Opti.ex_) and won't unzip.

Hi,

Sorry if this is a duplicate message.

If you are not an optical designer (and I am not), you might consider trying TracePro.

It is easy to use and allows you to add antireflection coating, etc.

I find it is good for visualizing the rays, especially if you have a stray light problems.

But - it is not a substitute for a good optical design(er).

Good Luck

optical design shareware

Hi,
The best optical design freeware that I have found is OpTix4lt.exe.
