Hello.
I'm learning to use the UART/USART on a PIC microcontroller, to interface with a computer for the first time.
Every time I want to re-program the PIC, this is what I do:
Disconnect COM port from breadboard.
Connect Pickit 3 USB programmer to the PIC.
Program PIC.
Disconnect programmer.
Reconnect COM port.
Is all that necessary, or is okay to have the COM port and the USB programmer connected at the same time? (the programmer and COM port are connected to the same computer)
One of my serial ports is a PCI card -- would that be any different?
(of course I'm using a MAX232 in between the PIC and the PC, and when connecting/disconnecting the COM port I always make sure that the ground is the first/last lead connected)
