Hi all,

Some connected with development of Industrial Ethernet capable devices, can help to understand its difference to the common Ethernet?

It s impossible to give a simple answer so you can find many different
version of industrial ethernet (in fact each PLC company has it s own industrial ethernet protocol)

The big problem of Ethernet/TCPIP is the lacking of determinism compared to other industrial networks. Collisions are not really a problem on a computer network but if you want to send an information to
another industrial component you have sometimes to be sure it gets the information
within a certain time (real time). Ethernet TCPIP cannot do that.
So companies are working on "industrial ethernet" which means increase
determinism or leaving TCPIP tring to get a real time Ethernet

Re: "Normal"/Industrial Ethernet. What is the diff

the difference between normal ethernet and indutrial ethernet is just the cable.

industrial ethernet is more shielded and better used in industrial enviremont (like near to power cables, frequenty drivers,...)

And what about cable? UTP, coax, ...?

Many systems uses cat 5 cable just as for the computers.

Re: "Normal"/Industrial Ethernet. What is the diff

well "industrial ethernet" is a trademark of siemens

it uses shielded cables with sub D connector
but it is also possible to use normal UTP cables.

Siemens ethernet also uses a special protocol :

no ip adresses are used, but the MAC adresses

It's Wrong!

you can go to Hirschmann's Website, many of Siemens industrial ethernet
moudle is purchase from it.

Hi

yes as it was pointed out .The only difference is the cable BUT ALSO The connector .. suppose that those cables are present in a flamable gas enviroment .. .. So there are several types of solutions .
