Hi,

I have a project that needs to multi-plex a number of fiber optic cables which collect broad band light sample information and present it to a single sensor. There is no "data" on the fiber optic, we will be just looking at the spectral distribution. Low switch speed is not a problem, low cost & rugged are necessity.

I have in mind using a slide or wheel to sequentially present the various fiber optics to the single sensor. But I suspect someone has solved this problem before in a more elegant manner.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

I'm university student. May i know what sensor is suitable for such purpose? I'm actually doing project on 'finding optimum light coupling condition' and would like to measure the optical power, using the cheapest way.

your application, a slider or wheel will reduce the optical power greatly. Is it possible to use conventional AWG?
 

I have a concept that should achieve 95-98% efficiency according to the analysis. The switching is mechanical, i.e. it couples the sensor fiber optic to the different input fiber optics one at a time. Two sets of ball lens are used to collimate the light & re-focus it into the mating fiber.

If you have an alternate suggestion, I would love to hear it.
