Hello,

This D cell Nicd datasheet (page 1) lists "Standard", "permanent" and "trickle" charge levels.

What are these?

The standard charge looks like the 'fast' charge rate that should last for 16 hours maximum.

But then what is the difference between the "permanent" charge and the "trickle" charge?

I wrote to SAFT but they never answer me.

Not so sure of these Nicd batteries.. but terminology may mean the same for all batteries... In Li-ion, when battery charges to maximum capacity and if still the charger is connected.. trickle charging takes place.. To say more accurately, If max. voltage is V, and voltage drops by some mV, trickle charging occurs to keep the battery at maximum charging condition..
