Hi everyone, my name is Jerry, and I’m new to this platform. I’m interested in learning more about electronics and want to improve my knowledge and skills.

Could you please guide me on where to start or share any beginner-friendly resources? I’m also curious to know about the topics most discussed here.

In the way of tools, right away in your learning curve a meter (analog or digital) is enormous help. Then you can test batteries and perform handyman-type jobs around the house and car. Solder equipment is part of the territory.

Big steps up for me:

* discovering characteristics of components scavenged from old televisions,
* building my own power supply (thanks to old Heathkit manuals),
* acquiring an oscilloscope (used, cheap),
* and Radio Shack 300-in-1 electronics lab,
* composing my homebrew animated interactive electronics simulator and creating videos for posting on Youtube ('patientbrad' channel),
* incessant experimenting with Falstad's animated interactive simulator.

Free literature was a few books at the library. ARRL handbooks. From Radio Shack I purchased their mini-books of projects (with Forrest Mims' exceptionally helpful tutorials).

Since the internet got big these websites seem to keep my attention :

4qdtec.com

sound-au.com

falstad.com/circuit

Hi,

Electronics is such a wide area .. from learning about Ohm´s law to: low noise design, power switching, RF, IC design .... there are countless sub-areas.
So - in my eyes - it makes no sense to say "I want to learn electronics". It´s impossible to learn everything. You need to focus on sub-areas you are interested in.
Additionally ... electronics is developing field. So if - hypothetically - one day you´ve learned everything .. the next day you again lack of new knowledge.

It is like to say "I want to understand the world".

So I thought .. what could be my best recommendation?
My idea was: someone needed to write a document named "Electronics in a nutshell".

And - as usual - I did an internet search for: "Electronics in a nutshell".
As expected: there are several hits. I did not read a single one. But the headlines look promising.
