help : i wonder bootstrap operation for driving mosfet or IGBT

i read this paper : "New Solid-State Marx Topology for Bipolar Repetitive High-Voltage Pulses", (Hiren Canacsinh)

in this paper , i wonder "bootstrap operation"

캡처1.JPG

the contents is as follows :
in order to deliver drive signal to each drive circuit of Marx generator , optic-fibre was used, but because the optic-fibre needs another power supply,
the supply was placed like this picture, and it supply the bottom semiconductor of half-bridge structure.

i also wonder what is the role of Caux , Vasu and Daux.

i hope good feedback.
