computer architecture book
by patterson and hennessy( father of MIPS)

Has DLX processor arch.which is essentially a cleaned up and simplified MIPS,


This book is very good material for getting started with MIPS arch .

Long time back I have done implementation of DLX onto virtex2.
I had designed custom data forwarding unit, branch prediction algo. etc(you will get this in book) for DLX.
Me and my partner had named our version as YoYo.
