Hi,

Shall i use LM338 Voltage regulator for 5V 3A output with 9V input? does Vin should be 5V greater than required output?

The LM333 will work fine with 9V in for 5V output. Note that it will need to mounted on a good heatsink since it will dissipate 12W @ 3A output.

Hi,
Thank you both for the suggestions..

In case lm2596 (3A) suits you you can get a complete regulator board from ebay cheaper than the cost of the regulator alone (about $1-$1.5), but note that you may need to add a small heatsink for 3A.
