I want some information about the principle operation of a voice/audio codec,
Codec types and differnet brands,similarities and differeneces,and the main applications,
and some famous algorithms to implement the codec operation

Look for a book on speech coding, comp.speech.research usernet group and google speech coding, you will find many information on voice codec. What is the purpose for using voice codec? There are different vocie codec for different applications.
