I am very new to this and am hoping someone can help me with a circuit I am trying to build.
What I am trying to do is have 2 momentary push switches for adding or subtracting. I have found a 4017 counter/divider chip and am lost on how to get it to work. I am hoping to build the circuit to turn on no more than 4 different LED's when the "add" button is pushed. When the "subtract" button is pushed, it should turn off the LED's in the same sequence they were turned on ending.

Example :

Add button pressed: ------------ LED status
-------------------------------------------------
0 --- 1
1 --- 2
3 --- 3
4 or more --- 4

Subtract button pressed : ------ LED status (Starting with 4 on)
-------------------------------------------------
0 ---- 4
1 ---- 3
2 ---- 2
3 ---- 1
4 ---- 1

Any help would greatly be appreciated!
Tim
