Hi All

I am new to this EDAboard and think it is very informative. What is the most common or best PICmicro C Compiler for 16Fxxx and 18Fxxx. I have been looking into CCS, which seems to be a bit expensive. What does the group think or feel about Boostc? EBAY usually has it for around $50-$60. I do have PIC C18, but would like to program the 16F8xx family. Any suggestions would be helpfull or any recommended books on C.

Thank you for your kind cooperation

Thomas

Look for Sourceboost http://www.sourceboost.com/ BoostC Standard License US $29.95 !!. very good product for a good price. CCS has many many bugs and is non-ansi C standard so you get mad programming it. It also has many bugs so that code compiled does not do what you expect due to C compiler bugs !!..

Thank you Paul

I thank you very much to help answer my question. I recently purchased a book "Embedded C Programming and the Microchip PIC", the book comes with a student version of the CCS C Compiler. CCS is very popular, but I don't know if it's a true ANSI compatable C compiler? In any event, I like Assembler and wanted to try C. So I'm leaning toward Boostc and Microchips C18 C Compiler. I already have C18 compiler by Microchip. I will probably order Boostc Full ver. So some how ... I need to obtain a better understanding of embedded C Programming. Sorry for the Question. This appears to be a very Controversial subject. Each individual has a different opinion. Thank you again. I honor your oppinion very much!

Thank you for your time and recommendation.

Thomas
