Hi friends
i have made gerber file using ADS.
I want to make PCB.
But the place where I want to make PCB, dont accept gerber.
They want .prn file.
SO how to convert gerber file to .prn file?
which software is used?
Thanks
Abhishekabs

translate gerber files

I would find a different place to have my PCB built if the shop can't handle Gerber

convert prn to gerber

Abhishekabs,

GerberMagic 3.4 converts Gerber to Postscript format.
But is a Trial version, with expiration time.

Thanks Andre_teprom.
Dear trace router, I know the solution you told me.
When I want to know some information, please provide the same if possible.
Dont give such suggetions.
If you are aware, money can be problem for someone. so it is not always possible to change place to make PCB.
so you can always find relevant solutions for example solution suggested by Ander_teprom.

For a PCB manufacturer to NOT use Gerber files is unheard of.

I would suggest that they are not a proper PCB manufacturer and you would be better off looking around elsewhere.

What are the dimesions/layer count/details for the oard you want making & how much is it going to cost you? places like eurocircuits.com can make them very cheaply for you.

PRN is considered to be the usual print file.
in my opinion, you can ask the PCB manufacture for a sample of PRN file, and send it to this title.

we can think out more methods for you.
waiting for you, just do it.

i think this prn format will also be a built in feature of the PCB design software if it is not the case just download a pdf creator which is free and create a pdf document which will help the manufacturers

Thank you friends for your replies.
There are few places who accept gerber files in my town, but they take very long time(about 1 month) & big money to Make PCB. Specially when PCB is micro strip.
The easy solution is to make Film(+Ve & -ve) & give to PCB manufacturer, this is simple job. & take 4 days only.
So for film making, mostly people accept files from softwares such as Corel draw or Protel or Pspice.
Thats why asked the question how to convert .gbr to .prn.
If you can provide link to any software which can do this I will be thankful.

The reason people are advising you against doing the conversion is accuracy. Gerber files are machine control files that can plot lines and pads to within ten thousandths of a meter or better. Once you convert that to a print file, you have no control at all over the accuracy of the print size. The person making the print can change the scale, and you won't know it until the final circuit board is complete.

PRN files are not a standard. There are several formats that are called "PRN" - it just means printer format, and there are many.

Having warned you - there are free conversion programs that can translate Gerber files into HPGL plot files, or Postscript files - those are types of printer formats. A couple of free programs can be found at: **broken link removed**

Note the free "Viewmate" program on that same site can also print out Gerber files to any printer device you have installed on your computer.

I completly agree with HouseCat.

You can not trust on the printer files or prn files.Sometimes we have seen the variations between what we are seeing on the screen of the software and the printed file.it might be possible that the plot is not 1:1.

so u have to choose betwwen the accuracy of the work or just fast work.

Regards,
abhi
