Need help or idea on my reminder project(using pic 16f877)

Hi..
My project title is Expiry Date Monitoring System For Refrigerator. I need to build a device which is similar as reminder and this device remind the user about expired food in their fridge by entering the food expired date. i'm planning to use pic16f877, lcd and 4x4 keypad...but i dont have any idea how to start this project....
can some1 help me?

Hi,
You can use a user manual entry system... which can be updated by the user which needs...

1. A real time system for updating time with a battery backup (you ca use RTOS ic for this)
2. You need to store the data entered by the user (i.e; name and expiry date)
3. An alarm system to alarm and display the details of expired product.
4. A program to delete the entered product.

The other method is...

Use a bar code reader to store the details of the product.... also i dont think this is supported by 16F.... but the first one is ideal...
