lm2574 power supply

I need a device as above that can drive a 500mA load . Can someone suggest something?

LM2574 and similar parts from national semiconductor do the task, but they are non-isolated,you can also buy DC/DC converters at reaonable prices from TI and minmax(www.minmax.com.tw) they have 24 to 5 at 0.5A

I have good experience with MIC4680 (Vin 34V max, Iout 1A, SOP8)

We have positive result with NATIONAl LM3478 + external MOSFET
with this IC you can make many others topologies.
In our case we develop -60V -> -12 V with common +60 rail.

Tha Maxim MAX724 is nice to use - internal switch and just the usual few passives and small inductor. Output voltage is adjustable, input can be up to 40V, 100KHz oscillator, 5-pin TO220 package.

I like 'em!

LM2574 is easy to use and gives you 5V@0.5A

Are there any products with 230VAC in and 5VDC@1A out?

See STM Viper or Power Integration TOPSwitch families

Linear has a free program (SwCADIII)
you can insert your inputs (Vin, Vout, I...)
and the program draw a schematic

use lm2596 National is veri good

Hello

You might want to examine TI's sample list for plug-in power solutions...

Regards

Take a look at maxim-ic homepage. E.g., MAX831 is a DC-DC step down converter, 5V 0.5A output, and high efficiency.

MC34063 is very cheap and easy to design, it can be configured as step-up or step-down mode. But it's working freq is low, that means a big inductor is needed.
