Hi,

Why do we need bad block management and ECC in nand flash?
What will happen if we dont implement them? Will there be an immediate impact or only over a period of time?

Also how do we find out if any issue is due to wrong implmentation of ECC or bad block

Regards,
VJKris

NAND is just like your Hard disk. Some sectors will be bad and they need to be taken care of.

Bad blocks develop over a period of time as the usage increases. NAND might develop bad blocks from factory itself. This will only be a small percent of parts.

ECC is a way of managing bit errors in NAND.
