MP3 encode for streaming purpose

Firstly, I don't know whether this topic should put on the DSP forum or not, pls advise.

I have to implement a hardware for converting PCM signal to MP3, only (MP3)encoding is involved, no decoding process.

Since that almost parts on the markets are integrated encoder & decoder (codec) w/ DAC in chips. It means only a few resources (pherhaps only the encoder) are used. And I wonder those chips can't fulfill as streaming usage.

I have no idea about what scale of hardware resource are needed. Pls help .....
