Generally stepper motors have low power consumption, and driver for it it's not a problem. In this case is a good idea use a simple transistor with conderable gain, but if you wanna use a Mosfet, many of them accept use 3.3V, look threshold voltage at datasheet. But have some problems: the speed and power losses in mosfet depends directly of Vgs (as bigger better, attempting to maximum voltage), and Rg, i.e depend of charge time of internal Cgs and Cgd capacitances. And if Rg is small the peak current required is bigger than a uC I/O can source and sink. Look serie OMNIFET II of ST, it has low current consumption in gate and accepts your 3.3V, but it's more than you need ...
