nmos current flow

for a given W/L for any mosfet how much current can be flowed in it .
is there any limitation for the current flow for given mos(w/L)

Re: mos current flow

Hi,

it depends on the technology

and yes there is a limit and it applies for metals,semicondutor..

Thanks,

Re: mos current flow

Hi Manissri,

Surely the Rds,on (depending on W/L also) will be a limiting factor before MOSFET is thermally running away. Besides current is in relations ship with W/L ratio as below shown

Linear region Drain Source Current
\[I_DS= \mu_n C_{ox}\frac{W}{L} \left((V_{GS}-V_{th})V_{DS}\frac{V_{DS}^2}{2} \right)\]

Saturation Mode Drain Source Current
\[I_DS = \frac{\mu_n C_{ox}}{2}\frac{W}{L}(V_{GS}-V_{th})^2 \left(1+\lambda V_{DS}\right)\]
