Mobile Robot query...hope u could help me

Can anyone help me on my project? im trying to make a mobile robot, a line finder, using only simple materials like photo diodes and LEDs...and no ICs. Can anyone provide any circuits for this or tell any websites where i can check on the circuits...hope you could help me on this one.

yap, i can use transistors for this project...as long as no ICs.

You may search Google for "Biology Electronics Aesthetics Mechanics" or "BEAM robot". In which, some projects use only transistors.
