Can a pick-and place machine load just one or two parts from cut-tape? I'm about to order components for my prototype boards and wonder if i need to order a minimum number of components for the machine to "get a grip" of the tape.

Yes the pick and place equipment can. The only catch is that the equipment needs a certain length of tape for tape and reel formats to be able to feed the machine.

Your CM will take the parts you give them but they will charge you a fee to put the parts on a reel with enough feeder tape. Do yourself and your CM a favor and buy enough parts to have a strip of tape at least two feet long.

Thanks nxtech. I will have to pay the special fee because the prototype series is so small. Two feed worth of components would last for 50 prototypes
