mini-circuits sra-1 mixer

Hi,
Has anyone used Minicircuits mixer modules. How is the mixer biased. Does it require +/-20mA, should it be alternating/ is there a practical ckt available.

sra-1 mixer

Hello,

Did you have a look in their web page (Minicircuits) or the data sheets. If you are talking about a Minicircuit active mixer the power is required for the internal amplifier module so current consumption will depend on the model. Passive mixers don't require any biasing.

mini circuits mixer

passive minicircuits mixer does not need active biasing

mini-circuits mixer

some passive mixer need bias voltage

On passive mixer, Is it use for high barrier mixer diode about bias needed?

if you're goin to use a double balanced passive mixer...don't use bias and keep it as free as possible from DC!!!

we use sra-1 & yes, we have given it dc 12v pulses of 5 - 20 khz as modulation at input via 220 ohm resistor. the thing to keep in mind is IF range specified. in our case we can go up to dc. we even give 12 dc throu 220 ohm res, to get cw rf output.this is a passive mixer.
in another example video is modulated on l.o. to get rf. here dc component is must & sra-7 is used.

Biasing mixer is possible only with mixers that have DC and above IF output. Applaying DC bias to IF port can improve isolation if needed. Such a mixer can be used allso as an AM modulator for example for TV video modulation.
