microcontroller power supply

what happens if i give 10V(over voltage) to a microcontroller(arduino,msp430) rather than 5V prescribed???

You have to check if that voltage is above what is stated at the "absolute maximum rating" section of the datasheet. I would expect that IC burns at this case.
