Hello friends...
I have a project wherin I have to use I2C serial communication on a microcontroller. This project will give me a good exposure to microcontrollers. I wanted to ask u all... which is a good book to start with microcontrollers. 8051 or pic... can u suggest good books ....

thank you
Prashant

Hi,
I suggest you the following books.

The 8051 Microcontroller (4th Edition)
by I. Scott MacKenzie , Raphael Chung-Wei Phan

Programming Embedded systems in C and C++ by Michael Barr (Now you get the 2nd edition of this book which covers GCC tools)

Kars

u can search the web about i2c
(first u have to understand it)

then write a code to implement it using pic or 8051
(both are good and easy, but u can write code for pic faster--i think that)

also u can note that some of micros have built in modules(hw) for i2c

your can down the free soucecode from network and reference some basic material about I2C and 8051 , simulation the soucecode. you will learn a lot
