I am looking for an 8 bit micro with the following minimum specs.

Dual Hardware Uarts with independent baud rates
16K Flash
512B Ram
Small amount of EEprom
Must be socketable, no sm devices

Dallas have closest match, but no eeprom
Others, Pic, ATmega etc all seem to be surface mount devices

Any suggestions most welcome. Looking to upgrade from Atmel AT89S8253.

Hi,

Can only comment on pics, many chips meet your memory requirements, just that dual Usart is unusual.

Would have thought the simple solution would be to use the one hardware Usart and the second one controlled by just software.

There are several PIC18FxxJ with 2 UARTs, but they are all low-voltage (1.8 - 3.6V) type. As said, nearly all lower pin count types are available in a DIP package, too.

Thanks for the reply's.

Have already checked out Pic ranges i.e 18F6520 series etc, but all seem to be low voltage surface mount. Need to be able to change chips on site if needed. Ideally 5v operation is preferred, but not an absolute requirement. Bit banging not ideal for application in mind.
