Hi
In my experience, max232 gets damaged frequently. It works, but after a few days it may get damaged
I have tried using original products, but it hasn't helped yet
This is the schematic we usually use:

What is your experience?
Any suggestions?

Normal conditions, at home
I control it with atmega128 and connect it to computer using a usb2serial converter (FAT232)

Why do you use higher capacitor values than the ones suggested in the datasheet?
Maybe they stress the chip and they are the cause of fail.

Higher value caps can be a problem.
Larger caps means a larger switching current to charge and discharge the caps.
The caps in the max232 are for the charge pump for changing the voltage levels. This involves fast switching.

1.Use capacitor 10uF or below.
2.Check the part from supplier original...

I reviewed the datasheet again, it seems 1uF should be used
I don't know why I had seen 10-22uF suggestions elsewhere
Thanks

Give more detail on the atmega128 and interfaces to the micro-processor. How long is the RS232 cable?

Not long, maybe 1 meter
I think using smaller capacitors will fix my problem. Thanks all
