I want to make a remote data logger.

The easiest way to interface to the GSM network is to use a GSM modem. There are three on the market Wavecom, Connexant and Sony/Ericson. These devices offer a serial interface that uses modem like commands to set them up. You will have to interface to the serial port as well as to a SIM card. This will be the easiest way. Do a search on GSM modems and you will get many links.

Hi darksky,

Take a look at the following post:

There you can find the first part of the article from Elektor's Jan/2002 issue, and some other files...

Hello,
I will try to explained it.
To make a remote data logger working with GSM-Phone as transmission media, you must know about AT command connected with serial protocol.

To access GSM-HP via RS-232 Connector must know about Baudrate (Com Mode) that is used by GSM-HP.

I try with S35 Siemens, it use baudrate as 19200, no parity, 8 bit data, 1 stop bit.

You must have a serial connector from HP to RS-232 computer (the first, please used PC to try AT command).

To know about the serial connection please visit this link:

How to create a serial data link, this circuit for Siemens S35.

OR

Visit this link for another GSM-HP type.

Hello to all GSM hobbiest,

If you are ready have a serial link cable for S35 Siemens, please connect it to PC-serial.

Use Hyperterminal, set the property to 19200 baud, no parity, 8 bit data, 1 stop bit.

Entry with keyboard:
AT Enter
Must appear the AT char on hyperterminal and return acknowledge from HP with "Ok" string. Else any error with the serial cable and or the pc serial.

If you enter the correct command the S35-HP will echo it and appear to Display.

Please upload the AT command manual for S25, and working with S35.

Modem drivers for Siemens S35, M35, C35 and SL45 can be found on the internet and works with Infrared (if available).

working with GSM for process control is as simple as ABC to be frank. Most modern mobile phones have serial port connection points. as far as you can get hold of the serial cable for the mobile phone. They accept standard AT commands for modems with variations from one mobile phone manufacturer to the next. transmitting these commands can be easily handled by suitable MCU. Buying a full blown GSM modem can be a bit of an overkill if you have any of your old mobile handset somewhere around the house.

Re: GSM module interface

Do any body have Wavecom GSM/GPRS Quick 2403 module interface schematic with microcontroller and with PSTN line. Please share it with us. I am urgent in need of it.
