I'm coming from a industry with harsh environments, where you have no chance to print(thermal) something for cable. The answer to your questions is related to the environment of your cables. Do you have to mark only single wires? Or cables? Are the cables fixed or with connectors? What are the operating temperatures? :?:
Any chemicals that can come on your cables(oil, alcohol…)?
For the simplest thing, a single fixed wire in a cabinet the thermal printing solution on self adhesive materials is enough.
In (my) worst case, oil + chemicals + dust and -40 degree celcius with a not fixed cable, you haven’t many possibilities. :!:
