Power System Stabilizers

I need to learn about power system stabilizers from a basic level. What they do, how do they work etc.
Can anybody point me towards some links for power system stabilizers. Some tutorials or some basic level textbooks (hopefully online) would be helpful.
Thnx

Re: Power System Stabilizers

They consist of an auto transformer having many secondary outputs. These output range from lower voltages to higher voltages as compared to the desired output.
When the input is high lower voltage output are connected to the output.
The connections are made through relays. They are controlled by schmitt triggers whic have hysterisis and prevent the realys from chirping at the switching point.

You may search the net as well. Regards.
