Hello, can anyone point me to resources on serial ports?
I need to know voltages and pin functions... i'll be building a ir receiver and would like to know what i'm donig so that i dont fry my motherboard.
Also, some info on how to access the serial port with software preferably with C++

Hi,
In addition to the excellent resource that Frank has pointed you to, this C++ class works OK but is a bit slow, it is probably good enough for what you need though.

The shareware routines by Marshallsoft are brilliant and fast, I have used them commercially but they are probably a bit to expensive for a home project.
