I'm new to DSP and I can't locate any source that describes which of the classical DSP processes among the DFT's, FFT's, convolution's, windowing, IIRF & FIR digital filtering, z-transforms, speech recognition, echo cancellation, noise suppression, etc., etc., are applicable for a specific operation.

My application is low frequency (8Hz - 44Hz) vibration analysis, and don't want to spend weeks or months learning aspects I ultimately don't need to employ for this application.

I've purchased numerous books, and they're all very dry reading with no obvious application to this specific project.

What would be useful to get me off the dime is a "flow chart" of the processes required. Can anyone point me to a source for such a "flow chart", or similar info.
