Looking for a serial RAM IC with at least 4k bits

I want to know about any serial ram IC.
Like 24cxx eeproms, is that any RAM?
DS1302 etc have RAM but that is only 32 bytes. I need atleast 4k Bit.

what is the advantage of using Serial RAM? you will not get it faster.

indeed you can use the 24cxx family. you will noy notic any diffrence.

You can use FRAM: http://www.ramtron.com/doc/Products/Nonvolatile/Nonvolatile_list.asp?ID=5 with SPI interface.

For SPI clock ~20MHz the write data rate is about 500kBytes/second (randoom access) or up to 2.5MB/s for sequential write

Bear in mind that an eeprom is differnet to a RAM in some ways.

It takes a long time to write to a 24lc16b eeprom, 0.01second to write one byte is a long time. (datasheet says 0.002s typical, 0.01second maximum so you have to design for 0.01s to be sure you can make lots of devices and have them all work with all variations of temperature, supply voltage etc).

Writing to RAM is quicker than writing to eeprom.

A 24c16b eeprom is only guaranteed for 1000000 write cycles. Thats one write per second for eleven days. There is no limit on the number of write cycles to a RAM.

I am using AT89C52 uC. Do you have any sample C program for RAM (eg. PCF8570)? So, i can play around with your sample program! I got interested to learn about the RAM!
