Linux Programmer

Could somebody direct me to a good piece of software which can program PIC chips under linux. My Programmer is a parallel PIC16PRO by dontronics..

On a side note:

Do programmers for the PIC chips use the ICSP feature of the chip or is there an alternate method of programming. Refering mainly to the 16F87X Series.

Thanks
