ltc4062 charging circuit

For charging and protection of Li-Ion batteries what ICs is used.

Please give the part number of some industry proven ICs for charge and protection of these batteries.

Hello,

You can select based on your battery rating. You can go for Linear.com and search for li-ion charger and you will get many battery charger ICs. One of them could be LTC4061 OR LTC4062. tHERE ARE MANY OPTIONS. You can also check TI.com and etc..

Hope this helps

what are doing protection ICs for Li-Ion?

How select them? which parameters I must consider?

It depends what kind of battery.
For notebook there are 2 kind of protection:primary and secondary.
The primary detects overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, short current. If one of these events is detected the device switches OFF one of two low Rdson MOSFET transistor disconnecting battery from charger or load. After the event dissapers the device swithes the MOSFETs ON connecting battery to load or charger.
The secondary detects only overcharge with detection level little bit higher than the primary protection device. It switches ON another MOSFET that burns fuse. To return the battery pack to normal operation you need to change fuse. It is soldered on PCB inside the battery pack.
A few of protection ICs include overtemperature protection function.

Cell phone batteries use only primary protection.

what ICs from TI is good and in general use for Li-Ion (1 pack) protection?please give some part numbers.

You mean 1 pack is 1 cell. Usually battery pack can include 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-cells.
As I know TI is focused om multicell application. For single cell Seiko devices are more popular.

We had used TI BQ series which is really stable.
Bq2000 is multichemistry battery charger.
Bq 24 series is for dedicated Li-ion battery charger
