Can anyone suggests inexpensive LED driver having input voltage of 3-60V, capable to drive 1.2A LEDs and compatible for automotive application (bus/coach)?
My current design use a linear LED driver with 3-16V input and able to drive 1.2A LEDs but might not able to sustain high surge voltage from the bus/coach.
Hi, for this application I would recommend a monolithic buck converter IC such as the LTC1076 with an input voltage up to 60V and an internal switch up to 2A. To set the current through the LED strip to 1.2A, use a shunt resistor of 2.21V / 1.2A = 1.8Ω in series with the LED strip for the LTC1076 feedback input. This must be a 3W resistor since the power dissipated in it is over 2W!
this is for real bus. 3V SMT LED connected 6 in series and 8 strings in parallel = 48 LEDs total on one PCB strip.
3 strips = 144 LEDs. forward current for each LED = 20mA.
this design already solved and tested.
