led cube, need some help with the programing code

i am with a problem, i am developing a led cub of 4x4x4.
i'm using pic 16f877a, and max 7219 to multiplex using the spi protocol, with a crystal clock of 4 mhz in tx mode
but my system doesnt respond, any code i use all de led turn on...
i ready check the hardware, conecctions and stufs, its all correct...
i think the problem is in the software part.
i ready try micro C, pic basic, but any of theses worked.
i would like to know your opinian about it...
and if you could help me...

Test 1 code with ALL LEDS on then 1 at a time. Check ports with logic probe or scope,
Failing that start with sample code from source that works and then modify.
