LED and heat sinks using two layer fr-4

Hello,
I am new to PCB design.
I understand the when using an LED we can use a 2 layer Fr-4 with thermal vias. The question is if I want to add an additional heat sink to the bottom of the PCB will that mean I will have to show the copper? If so, how will this prevent solder wicking when filling up the thermal vias?

Usually it makes only a small difference, because the heat_transfer_area is much bigger than the LED one.

I understood the question wether you should use solder stop or not.

I say it makes about no diffdrence in heat transfer, so use solder stop.

When using >=1W LEDs, MCPCB or alum substrate are preferred.
