Learn Software for Scientefic computing

I want to go to scientefic computing and solve math equations by computer (also graphical solutions)
could any body tell me which profissional software or programming language should i learn to do this job as a pro

matlab, scilab

Octave is also a good alternative if you cant get matlab.Octave is free.You can download it from the sourceforge.net website.
Scilab is also good but its syntax is a little bit diffrent.
