notebook usb to serial communication

Is there a port in a laptop for serial communication?

laptop with serial 2009

I guess you're talking of a RS232 serial interface? Cause USB and Ethernet are basically also serial connections. Most recent notebooks don't have it, except for some professional types designed for engineers. You can use a FTDI or similar USB-to-RS232 adapter.

lapto serial

yes.. but the adapters won't give give you +- 12V, as in a normal Rs232. will it still be correct interpreted by max232?

12v serial for laptop

eevn if it's not +/- 12V , USB to RS232 will for sure give output in way that will be understood by MAX232. As PHY layer of RS 232 say for -3 to -12 and 3 to 12 so even if it's +/-5V , it will be understood by MAX232

serial communication laptop

if it's 5V fixed, and not much, there isn't a need for max232, just a software inversion and that's it
