Jumping Onto AVR Wagon

I'm a PICmicro user and has been using basically 16 series and 18 series. I would like start on AVR MCUs. When I started with PIC, I started with PIC16F628A. I wonder for the case of AVR, what MCU in the Mega series that would be suitable for me?

Hi!
I also went through the same learning process. I started programming AVR with ATmega8 because it has got most of the features that PIC's have e.g pwm, adc, timers,usart,spi etc. You can start with ATmega8535 because it has got the same features as ATmega8 but more IO's.

ATmega8 is a nice starter cpu its superceeded by
the ATmega88 (more PWM etc ..) , but still a fine cpu.

i suggest you atmega 16 and atmega32 because have more properties.
