JTAG programming external flash on ARM7

Hi,

Im looking for some specifications and/or source code which shows how to program an external flash on an ARM7 core through JTAG.

It seems there are two possible ways of doing this.

1. Bit banging the boundary scan register of the ARM7 core

2. Running the ARM7 core in debug mode and injecting flash programming instructions into the execution pipeline.

Does anyone have any information on how this is done, either way.

My goal is to make my own software which is able to program the flash, through my own JTAG device.
