symbian os and other rtos

Is symbian OS a real time operating system ??

Please clarify:D

The current version of symbian is not a real time OS. I think they are working on a RT symbian in the symbian community right now.

For a OS to be RT it should have the two c/cs:
1. The kernel is re-entrant & pre-emptable (necessary but not sufficient).
2. The response to events should be predictable.

Amraldo.

i think it will come under embedded OS....

It's can yes. and no. At the first i think it more called firmware than RTOS. Futherly it can say RTOS because from version 5.0 it can do a multitasking process. and have thread.

Before i don't know.

refer to www.nokia.com

what is the benefite of symbian OS against other RTOS like as threadx ,vxworks,RTLinux,...?Is there any additional feature in it?or it is only anoyher RTOS that is used in nokia phones?
