Is it safe to run the computer & CRT monitor on home portable generator ?

Because of the fact that home portable generator normally do fluctuate the voltage of almost 3v to 5v ..... and also i think they produce surges .... and to my little knowledge the surges and voltage fluctuation are harmful to the electronics / electronic devices and systems .

Re: Is it safe to run the computer & CRT monitor on home portable generator ?

if it produces a 230volt or in between 200 280v it will be ok

Its not good if voltage go higher then 240V, I supose 250V-260V good quality psu will survive, but 270-280V its to high.

Additional, look to replace CRT with low power LED monitors. Try to use InkJet printers instead LaserJets when generator working.

Best regards,
Peter

Try to use InkJet printers instead LaserJets when generator working. Why is it so ?

Also what are on-line UPS ? Can they provide the supply or back up for up to 2 hours or 2.5 hours continuously ?

thanks

InkJet printers unlike LaserJet printers dont make peaks in strikes on power wires, specially in backup situation when you running generator.

Use On-Line UPS between generator and PC parts to filter power voltage, + UPS.

By online UPS you mean the 3rd circuit which is on the bottom of the picture (whose name is written On line Double Conversion UPS) , right ?

Thanks
