I can tell you this is true: one of the national broadcasters in the UK uses 2.4GHz point-to-point links on their outside broadcast units. They have to avoid peak meal times when in urban areas because the background microwave oven radiation blocks the signal!

Have you seen the movie "The Dish" - I think all microwave engineers should see it!
