Intermittent sound on Sony KDL-37XBR6 LCD tv.

My year and a half old, Sony tv has intermittent sound, it started just dying occasionally but now it is always off and just occasionally bleeps on for a second and then dies. When the sound does come back on it is very strong and clear. Any ideas or suggestions? This is using the TV speakers and external speakers.
