I know nothing much about microcontrollers even i dont know how to programme a microcontroller perfectly but i have made lcd with out the help of any person just with the help of the HD44780 Datasheet. You should try this data sheet as it is just simplest

Here are a few LCD to 8051 variant interfacing/programming tutorials:

LCD interfacing with Microcontrollers tutorial

The majority of common LCD displays are based on the Hitachi HD44780 chip, so the interfacing is either 4-bit or 8-bit modes. Delays are critical when programming your particular MCU, the LCD will not function properly without them.

These examples should get you started in the right direction.

does you 16*1 have auxillary controller in it????

because The Working of 16 x 1 LCD is Little Bit Different then of LCD 16 x 2.

In Most of Cases 16 x 1 LCD is available without Auxiliary Controller. Means as you see only HD44780 Controller at Back Side.
