I am working on wireless sensors and networks.I designed senor and controlled its work with the help of micro-controller like I designed physiological sensor pcb with with some sensors to measure temp and heart beat and its signal is fed to Micro controller and that is applied to Xbee(Xbee attached with this Micro-controller).From this Base XBee to the Xbee connected to the laptop with serial port(which works as coordinator XBee) data received wireless.
But now I want to replace that microcontroller and use FPGA board. But I have some doubt, these doubt are as follows:
1.Is there any FPGA board which has direct connection on board for XBee?
2.Is it good idea to use HDL logic instead of conventional Micro controller?

I will look forward to hear from you all.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
