i am new to linux i don't know any thing about it i just went to linux.org ,
but i don't know what i should download.
i read smthing like rehat... does linux has kinds?

plz help

Red Hat Linux was one of the Linux distributions

Yeah Red Hat is a distribution for Linux.
Linux has many versions like Red Hat, Mandrake, Susse etc.
You can download any one of these.

which is the newest version of linux? are they different like windows xp,xp sp2....?

Ok, I think you should read the documents that ivar4ever provided. Linux has many different distrobutions, lets say you have xp from company A, xp from company B etc...
So depending on what you want from you distrobution, you choose your linux. You can even create your own linux and call it the veiledcavalier-linux
The newest distrobutions are available from the websites of the "companies" that distribute the linux. Like Mandriva, Fedora Core, Debian, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Gentoo etc... there are about +-450 official linux releases, not gonna name them all.

Hi,
If you want a windows like linux, I mean good GUI Linux, than try Fedora 9 or 10.
Those are quite similar to windows in terms of GUI.

begining redhat linux 9

linux for dummies etc are also other few good books to start with

these books can be downloaded from flazx.com or ebooksclub.org
