It is capacitor-less. Many voltage regulator circuits use a zener diode. An internet search will turn up lots of articles and demonstrations. If you are using a properly regulated & filtered voltage then no capacitor is required at the input side but it is good practice to use the filter capacitor in the regulator circuit.
